Conference of the Atlantic Council of Albania in Tirana and Meetings with Albanian Universities

 

On December 20th, 2013, the Atlantic Council of Albania organized its 16th Annual International Conference entitled " For a Greater Role of the Balkan Countries in International Security".

During the Conference Mr. Theodossis GEORGIOU, President of the Greek Association for Atlantic and European Cooperation and Co-Founder of TICLS, was present and gave a speech on the subject " On a possible role of the Balkan countries in the Mediterranean Dialogue".

The 59th annual General Assembly of the Atlantic Treaty Association and the 18th General Assembly of the Youth Atlantic Treaty Association were held in Brussels, from December 8th to 11th 2013. The Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA) hosted an international conference on “NATO Post 2014” at the World Customs Organization.

The Delegates who represented Greece were: Mr. Theodossis Georgiou, Head of Delegation, President of GAAEC and Co-founder of TICLS, Dr. Aliki Mitsakos, Dean and Co-Founder of TICLS, and Ms. Maria Karaklioumi, Vice-Governor of region of Attica, Alumni of our Programs and a candidate for the post of the Secretary General of Atlantic Treaty Association. Report on The 21st Annual International Symposium: "Transatlantic Security: The Challenges Ahead"

The Symposium gathered together a wide range of delegates and experts and NGO’s, as well as youth movements. The 21st Annual Symposium sessions placed emphasis on: Transatlantic security today and in the future, threats and opportunities in transforming regions, the financial crisis and defence and energy security, and women, peace and security including the new educational concept of GAAEC, a workshop on NGO’s and youth involvement and development. GAAEC Delegation's Informative Visit in NATO and ATA Head Quarters

In October 19th 2012, the President of Greek Association for Atlantic and European Cooperation Mr. Theodossis Georgiou with members of the board of GAAEC and members of youth were invited to attend the information programme organized by NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division at NATO HQ in Brussels. The 21st Annual International Symposium

For 20 years the Greek Association for Atlantic and European Cooperation was dedicated to educating public and promoting discussion concerning critical international security issues in the South East Europe and Mediterranean region. Together with NATO Public Diplomacy Division we have come a long path on building leadership within Transatlantic community. IIPES 2012 completed

Annual International Institute for Political and Economic studies 2012 organized in cooperation with The Fund for American Studies and Georgetown University has successfully completed. This year the 17th edition of IIPES brought together 54 students from 25 countries - the Balkans, Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East, Eastern Europe and the U.S. to enjoy fruitful time in international environment, to get new knowledge and to learn from each other. This summer University of the Aegean in cooperation with GAAEC organized for the first time International Summer School „Mediterranean Security: Old Conflicts & New Challenges” which occurred from July 30th till August 6th in Rhodes island, Greece.

The Summer School brought together 24 students from 12 countries so students got an opportunity not only to get a wider knowledge on main subjects during lessons but to become acquainted with other cultures as well and to see the same problems from different perspectives in formal and non-formal atmosphere. IIPES 2012 in Full Wings
We are happy to announce that The 17th International Institute for Political and Economic Studies (IIPES), organized in cooperation with The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) has successfully started on Friday, July the 20th. As every year IIPES occurs in Chania, Crete and brings together students from 25 countries.In Opening Ceremony students were warm welcomed on behalf of Mr. Theodossis Georgiou, Chairman of G.A.A.E.C. and Prof. Dr. Aliki Mitsakos, Chair of Education Committee, GAAEC and introduced with IIPES history and expectations. International Institute for Political and Economic Studies is coming soon

GAAEC is happy to announce that the preparations for the 17th edition of the International Institute for Political and Economic Studies (IIPES) are in full swing. This year IIPES will occur from July 21 to August 6 and 80 students from 24 countries will come to Chania, Crete to get new knowledge and share their ideas. IIPES is an academic program that explores major political, economic and cultural issues important to the Eastern Mediterranean region organized in Crete, Greece. Students from a wide range of nationalities, religions and ethnicities have a chance to interact, learn and share their experiences in ways that can benefit their educational and professional development. Rhodes Summer School "Security in the Mediterranean: Old Conflicts and New Challenges"

The Department of Mediterranean Studies of the University of the Aegean launches in cooperation with the Greek Association for Atlantic and European Cooperation and the Fund for American Studies a new educational program in the beautiful island of Rhodes.
GAAEC has always supported educational projects for youngsters through programs like Kernels of Our Future and the International Institute for Political and Economic Studies. This new Summer School
, titled "Security in the Mediterranean: Old Conflicts and New Challenges" is a supplement to previously mentioned schools and open to all interested alumni of TFAS and GAAEC programs. Read more...



On 27 April 2012, the Atlantic Council of Albania organized in Tirana its 14-th international conference under the title “Smart Defense – Innovative Approach in facing the present security challenges”. It was organized in close cooperation with the NATO PDD.

There was a large participation in the conference of about 200 people consisting of representatives of the main state institutions, diplomatic corps in Tirana, members of Parliament, NGO-s, university students, members of the Youth Atlantic Council of Albania, media etc. Read More...


 

On Tuesday afternoon on March 20, a TFAS alumni meeting of young people that participated in one of the educational programs of The Fund of American Studies took place in London. It was organized on the initiative of Mr. Randal C. Teague, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TFAS, Mr. Theodossis Georgiou, Chairman of G.A.A.E.C. and Dr. Aliki Mitsakos, Chairwomen of the Educational Committee of G.A.A.E.C (main partner of TFAS in Europe) were present as well.

Greece's 60th Anniversary celebration in NATO was a great success. Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen´s visit had a very good media coverage (attached a selection of articles). The biggest daily paper TA NEA (The News) with a lectorate of 100,000 published a one page interview of the Secretary-General.

On 8 February 2012, an editors’ delegation visited the Greek Association for Atlantic and European Cooperation, while preparing a featured edition of the NATO Review that celebrates the 60th anniversary of Greece and Turkey in NATO. Editor Paul King of the Public Diplomacy Division interviewed senior and young members of GAAEC about the relationship between Greece and Turkey while in NATO. Admiral Vassilios Mitsakos was asked how he experienced his time in the army and the relationships between Greece and Turkey now and in the past.
